ইসলামী স্থাপত্য রীতিতে গম্বুজ একটি অতি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়। মন্দির স্থাপত্য রীতিতে এই গম্বুজ রীতির সরাসরি প্রভাব আমরা দেখতে পাই। মন্দিরের ওপর এক বা একাধিক গম্বুজ যুক্ত ছাদের অস্তিত্ব এই নির্মাণশৈলীতে দেখা যায়।
বিশিষ্ট মন্দির বিশেষজ্ঞ ডেভিড ম্যাককাচ্চন(১৯৩০-৭২) দু ধরনের গম্বুজ নির্দেশ করেছেন প্রথমত সরাসরি মুসলিম স্থাপত্যের গম্বুজ দ্বিতীয়তঃ উল্টানো পদ্ম আকৃতির গম্বুজ। পরবর্তীতে মন্দির বিশেষজ্ঞ নিহার ঘোষ ( ১৯৫১ – ২০০৭) এ বিষয়ে আরো কিছু আলোকপাত করেছেন।

Renowned temple expert David McCutcheon (1930-1972) identified two primary types of domes in temple architecture:
1. Dome, reminiscent of Muslim architecture.
2. The inverted lotus-shaped dome, a unique adaptation.
Building upon McCutcheon’s work, esteemed temple expert Nihar Ghosh (1951-2007) provided further insights into this fascinating architectural synthesis.
