হাওড়া জেলার ইংলিশ বাজার থানার অন্তর্গত নাজির খানি গ্রামে লোটন মসজিদটি অবস্থিত। এই মসজিদের নামকরণ নিয়ে অনেক রকম কথাই প্রচলিত আছে কারোর মতে নটু নামে কোন এক নটীর দ্বারা এটি নির্মিত হয়েছিল। আবার কেউ বলেন নাথু বা নর্তকী বালিকার মসজিদ। স্থানীয় মানুষের বিশ্বাস যে লুটন বা মীরাবাঈ নামে এক নর্তকী এটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন। আবার কারো মতে বিভিন্ন রঙের মিনা করা ইট দিয়ে এটি তৈরি বলে একে লাটন বা চিহ্নিত মসজিদ বলা হয়।
লোটন মসজিদে যদিও আগের মতন সৌন্দর্য নেই তা সত্বেও সামগ্রিকভাবে দেখলে এর স্থাপত্য কৌশল মুগ্ধ করে। বাইরের দিকে অনেকটা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হলেও মসজিদের ভেতরটা অনেকাংশে ঠিক আছে।
তিন গম্বুজ বিশিষ্ট এই মসজিদটি বাইরের দিকে আয়তাকার হলেও ভেতর দিকটা বর্গাকার। মূল কক্ষের গম্বুজ টি সর্ববৃহৎ। খিলানগুলিতে অনেক কারুকার্য আছে। মসজিদের তিনদিকে প্রবেশ পথ রয়েছে। এই জায়গার কাছে পাওয়া একটা শিলালিপি থেকে জানা গেছে যে সুলতান ইউসুফ শাহের শাসনকালে ৮৮০ হিজরীতে মন্দির তৈরি করা হয়। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে চামকাটি মসজিদ এবং লোটন মসজিদ একই নকশা ধরে তৈরি করা হয়েছিল। ইট এবং পোড়ামাটির অলংকরণ সমৃদ্ধ এই মসজিদটি মালদা জেলার এক অন্যতম উৎকৃষ্ট স্থাপত্য।
The Lotan Mosque is located in Nazir Khani village under English Bazar police station in Howrah district. There are many theories about the name of this mosque. According to some, it was built by a Natu named dancer.Some say it is the Nathu or Dancer Girl Mosque. Locals believe that it was founded by a dancer named Luton or Mirabai. Others say it is called Laton or Marked Mosque because it is made of bricks with enameled enamel of different colors.Although the Loton Mosque is no longer as beautiful as it once was, its overall architectural style is impressive. Although the exterior is badly damaged, the interior of the mosque is largely intact.
This mosque with three domes is rectangular on the outside but square on the inside. The dome of the main room is the largest. The arches have many carvings. The mosque has three entrance on the inside.
An inscription found near this place indicates that the temple was built in 880 Hizri during the reign of Sultan Yusuf Shah. According to experts, the Chamkati Mosque and the Lotan Mosque were built on the same design.This mosque, rich in brick and terracotta decorations, is one of the finest architectural works in Malda district
