দোচালা এবং জোড় বাংলা মন্দিরের চর্চা খুব সীমিতভাবেই হয়েছে। চালা রীতির জনপ্রিয়তা দেখা যায় চার চালা আটচালা এইসব মন্দিরে। দোচালা মন্দির নির্মাণের ক্ষেত্রে কারিগরেরা বাসস্থানের বাহ্যিক রূপের খুব একটা বদল ঘটাতে পারেননি। চারচালা মন্দিরের রূপ কল্পনা এবং প্রয়োগের ক্ষেত্রে তারা অনেক বেশি স্বাধীন ভাবে কাজ করেছেন। বর্গাকার বা কখনো আয়তাকার ক্ষেত্রে চারদিকের দেয়াল থেকে চালাগুলি গঠন হতে হতে ক্রমশ ওপরের দিকে উঠে গেছে। ক্রমঃ হ্রাসমান পদ্ধতিতে উঠে যাওয়া ত্রিভুজ আকৃতির চালাগুলি এসে মিলিত হয় গর্ভগৃহের ঠিক কেন্দ্রস্থলে, এই মিলনস্থলটিই শীর্ষবিন্দু। শিখর মন্দিরের মতো চার চালা মন্দিরের উচ্চতাও অনেকটাই হতে পারে। চালা মন্দিরের আচ্ছাদন সাধারণত টানা পলেস্তারায় আবৃত থাকে।
এই মূল রূপটা অক্ষুন্ন রেখে অনেক রকমের রুপ কল্পনা বিভিন্ন মন্দিরে দেখা যায়।
The Dochala and Jor Bangla temples have been built in limited numbers, whereas the Char Chala Atchala temples showcase the widespread popularity of the Chala style. In constructing Dochala temples, artisans made minimal changes to the exterior form of the dwelling, but they demonstrated greater creativity and independence in designing the Char Chala Mandir (temple with four roof )
The Char Chala temple features a square or rectangular base formed by surrounding walls that gradually rise upwards, supporting triangular chalas that meet at the center of the sanctorum, forming the apex. Like the Shikhar temple, the Char Chala temple can reach impressive heights. Typically, the roof of the Chala temple is covered with stretched plaster.
While maintaining the original form, various innovative designs have emerged in different temples, showcasing the versatility and evolution of the Chala style. This style has been adapted and reinterpreted in diverse ways, resulting in a rich and unique architectural heritage.
