বীরভূম জেলায় বোলপুর থানার অন্তর্গত একটি গ্রাম ইটান্ডা। বোলপুর থেকে ১৫ কিলোমিটার দূরে গ্রামটি অবস্থিত। এই গ্রামে একটি জোড় বাংলা ঘরানার মন্দির আছে। মন্দিরের বিগ্রহ কালী। একসময় এই ভেঙ্গে পড়া মন্দিরটি নতুন করে সংস্কার করা হয়েছে। জেলা প্রশাসন মন্দিরটি সংরক্ষণের কাজ করেছেন।
দক্ষিণ মুখী এই মন্দিরে টেরাকোটা অলংকৃত অনেক ফলক রয়েছে। বেশ কিছু ফলক নষ্ট হয়ে যাওয়ার চিহ্নও বর্তমান।
জোড়বাংলা মন্দির ঘরানা নিয়ে বিশিষ্ট মন্দির বিশেষজ্ঞ হিতেশ রঞ্জন সান্যাল মহাশয় গভীর আলোচনা করেছেন। তিনি দেখিয়েছিলেন যে নির্মাণের কৃত্রিমতার জন্য এই ধরনের মন্দির খুব বেশি তৈরি হয়নি। দুটি এক বাংলা মন্দির সমান্তরাল অবস্থানে রেখে জুড়ে দিয়ে এই ঘরানার মন্দিরগুলি তৈরি হয়েছিল। তিনি দেখিয়েছিলেন যে এক বাংলা মন্দিরগুলি মূলত আয়তাকার । আবার এই ঘরানার দুটি মন্দির জুড়ে যে জোড় বাংলা মন্দির তৈরি হচ্ছে সেটিও আয়তাকার।
ইটান্ডার মন্দিরটিও এই ঘরানার অন্তর্গত। এই ধরনের মন্দিরের সাধারন বৈশিষ্ট্য হিসাবে ইটান্ডার মন্দিরটিতেও আয়তাকার ক্ষেত্রে প্রস্থের ওপর উঠেছে মন্দিরের সামনের দিক এবং পিছনের দিক। আর দৈর্ঘ্যর দিকে উঠেছে দুই পাশের দিক। ত্রিখিলান এবং দালান সম্বলিত এই মন্দিরটির গর্ভগৃহটি রয়েছে পেছনের অংশে।
Itanda is a village under Bolpur police station in Birbhum district. The village is located 15 kilometers away from Bolpur. There is a couple of Bengali temples in this village. The deity of the temple is Kali.This temple, which was once destroyed, has been renovated. The district administration has taken care of the preservation of the temple.
This south-facing temple has many terracotta decorated panels. Several panels also show signs of damage.
Mr. Hitesh Ranjan Sanyal, a renowned temple expert, has given an in-depth discussion on the Jorabangla temple gharana. He has shown that such temples were not built very often due to the artificiality of the construction.
The temples of this style were built by connecting two one-Bangla temples in parallel. He showed that the one-Bangla temples were originally rectangular. Again, the pair of Bengali temples that are being built by connecting two temples of this style are also rectangular.
The Itanda temple also belongs to this style. As is common in this type of temple, the front and back of the temple are raised on the width of the rectangular area, and the two sides are raised on the length.The sanctum sanctorum of this temple, is located at the back portion of this three arched construction with a porch in front.
